TEACHING PRESENCE
The teaching presence refers to the preparation
and fulfillment of instruction before and during the course. It includes all of
the preparation that goes into designing and implementing the course as well as
guiding and motivating students.
SOCIAL PRESENCE
Social presence is
defined as the ability to represent oneself socially and affectively and get to
know one another as three-dimensional beings despite not meeting face-to-face.
Social presence is the foundation for developing confidence and presence for
teaching and learning activities. Learners must be able to project themselves
as "real people" and have a personal and emotional connection to the
group.
COGNITIVE PRESENCE
The importance of
cognitive present in student learning cannot be overstated. The amount and
quality of critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and meaning
building that occurs in student-student and student-faculty interactions are
reflected in the degree of cognitive presence. In conversations, assignment
feedback, and other contacts with students, you may demonstrate and promote
cognitive presence.
